I’m heading down towards my last few weeks before baby #3 joins the family 🙂
In preparing for my labouring effort we have decided to try for a water birth.
In my previous 2 x pregnancies I had some issues with high blood pressure (pre-eclampsia).
If I have any health problems leading into the birth then I’ll be automatically ruled out of having a water birth.
This is why I’ve worked hard to be as healthy as possible in the conceiving stage and all the way through this pregnancy.
Fortunately I was able to have normal births with my first 2 x kids and there are techniques I found helpful with pain without medication.
I found diaphragmatic breathing very helpful:
I also found standing upright to labour for a couple of minutes was helpful too!
A benefit of a water birth is the relaxation from the buoyancy of the water.
If you imagine the intense contractions on the birthing bed and then moving into the warm water of the tub it has a relaxing calming feel!
According to this blog post the warm water lowers your blood pressure allowing you to feel more relaxed.
The hormone oxytocin is released which allows more contractions to occur naturally and less intense in the soothing warm water.
I like the idea of the warm water being my pain relief 😉
Even better my hubby Leki is happy to hop in with me to help with the delivery process and ease some of my pushing pain.
Fingers crossed I can get across the line with my health so I can have the water birth!
Like my last effort where I documented baby Ky arriving I will look to document my water birth too 🙂
Not long to go…
